Platte County Hasn't Re-assessed in as much as SEVEN years.... Sad news for property owners

Platte County Can you Say Property Tax Increases ?

The Missouri State Tax commission isn't helping the residents of Platte County any!

Most recently approximately 18,000 Platte County residents received an unwanted letter from the Platte County assessors office.

It seems that it's been as long as seven years since some Platte County properties have been reassessed and now the State Tax commission is using their heavy hand to force it done.

This isn't the first time this has happened!  I personally know someone who had to sell their home in the 80's because their property was reassessed and their taxes sky rocketed causing their house payment to rise to an unaffordable level.

This is just crazy to me that people should have to take this kind of hit on their property tax.  Let's take for example someone who just bought their home and when they bought they purchased at the top of what they qualified for financially.  Now they are faced with their house payment going up due to reassessment and they aren't going to be able to afford it.  What options do these folks have?  I just don't see this as being fair.

If this has happened to you and you need assistance with your Kansas City Real Estate, please feel free to give me a call. 816-682-3897

If you would like to contact the Platte County's assessors office and begin the appeal process
their number is 816-858-2232.

My property tax went from 1487 to 2132.    which means my payment each month goes up 50 bucks a month... 100 for the next year to pay back the mortgage company for last year.     where in the heck is this extra dough gonna get used in platte county?    the schools are fine already.   midcontinent is thriving obviously as they just openend that huge geneoligical thing.    there also seems to be no rhyme nor reason in assesments on my street.

Is there a general formula for relating the assessed value of a home to current market value? I have a feel for the market value and can view the assessed value via the website but for all properties there's an "X" factor relating the two. I'm just not sure what "X" is or should be. I see disparties up and down the street whem comparing assessed values in the neighborhood.

Is there a possibility in appealing the current valuation that an upward versus downard adjusment might be made? I don't wish to get into the situation of doing more harm than good yet I see similar homes with higher valuations and other comparables with lower valuations so it's a bit difficult to make any general statement as to "fairness".

Dick:

Thanks for writing... and to be honest your guess is as good as mine when it comes to the wheres and whys of similar houses on a street having different values according to the various counties..... I'd love to be able to help you but I think the best answer you would get would be from the Platte County's Assessors office 816-858-2232.

Thanks for stopping by.
