I've ofen heard this gentleman in my office say, "we are our own worst enemy."
Quite frankly, sometimes I begin to believe it... then I stop myself.
I hate it when I hear a real estate agent being compared to a used car salesman. What used car salesman have you done repeated business with? Me, not a one.
Why is it they compare us to them?
It's because some of us, unfortunately, project that type of image by our level of professionalism, degree and ability to perform, knowledge and how we interact with our clients and fellow agents.
Our behavior speaks volumes as to what type of person we are and how we conduct our business.
Professionalism, communications, knowledge, customer service and attitude seperate us producers from the used car salesmen type.
We have the ability to participate in some of the most important and stressful decisions in our fellow mans lives. I find those big shoes to fill and do it to the best of my ability with some grace and class.
Sadly, the "image" that folks have of real estate agents come from interaction with them, or interaction a friend or family member experienced.
My goal is to not only assist individuals in the buying or selling of a home, but to do my part in changing the "face" of agents today. Tall order, but being a Scorpio I've always enjoyed a challenge. :)
Of course there will always be "those few" whose choice is not to make a difference.
They will struggle while I flourish as a top producer from constant referrals.
But if the momentum gets going - maybe someday all of us could be regarded in the same high standards of family doctors and dentists.
I challenge you to get on board! You too can make a difference.
But if the used car salesmen's shoes fit....... you'll probably continue to wear them.

Preach on, Fran! I'm beating this same drum with you. Our industry even advertising like used car salesmen... look at any typical RE Guide and you see page after page of ads that look the same... just like the car ads. Very few talk about the agent and the value of a given agent - the professional influence they have in the purchase/sale of ones largest investment. Just a bunch of houses and "any old agent will do" to show it. SIGH
Hang in there girl!
WOW, the momentum is beginning ......
Let's keep it going !
Yeah, I've always been a "dare to do something different" type person.... last year in the dead heat a neighborhood close by was having a Neighborhood Garage Sale. I went to Costco bought bottled water, attached my business cards with some stretchy string type stuff......... and went to the garage sales.
Not to buy, but to hand out ice cold bottled water to the participants. I haven't gotten any action off this silly stunt yet and it's even hotter this year.... so I don't think I'll be doing it.
105 degrees in Kansas City, Missouri today..........
